We desperately needed it as a visual effect during our VBS, and I knew I would use it again for upcoming productions, but still I did balk at the price. The fan is loud, so be prepared to turn you sound effects way up, but overall, with the LED lights, the effect of the flame was very true to life, and our kids loved it! Looks very real. We stacked real logs up around the base and presto...indoor campfire. Quality materials, well made and performs as advertised. However, for the money you spend, at least you can see the quality in the unit. It is heavy duty construction, larger than it looks and you can tell a good amount of thought went into how to make it work the best... nice powerful fan, strategically placed LEDs to render the effect. If you could get it for $30, I'd rate it a 5, my lower rating is only because it is more costly than it reasonably should be. For $50 and up... there are probably better overall lighting effects to invest in... but... it is still cool for what it is.
