Each puzzle is made of wood, and has a shape stamped on the back so you know which pieces go together when you have a pile of them. The box it comes in has 4 separate compartments to keep each puzzle in it's own little area. I love that. Also has a lid which is nice. The puzzles seem very sturdy and the colors are so vibrant. I didn't read carefully enough. I imagined 4 wooden puzzles packaged together in a box. And that is technically what they are. However, the 4 puzzles are pieces only -- you have to use the top of the box if you want a frame -- which doesn't have any guides as some puzzles do for the age specified '3 yrs.
