About Mongoose
Founded in 1974 in a Southern California garage, Mongoose has always been an innovator. From the company's initial cast-magnesium MotoMag wheels to its current crop of BMX, mountain, and pavement bikes, the Mongoose name has been synonymous with bicycle performance. Mongoose builds specifically for riders, which is why the company's BMX designers aren't wasting time watching reruns on ESPN2. Instead, they're constantly testing their new designs at the park, on the track, and on the hill. This continuous experimentation is what drives Mongoose to cook up things like the Front Porch head tube, which lets you fine-tune the handling on Black Diamond series mountain bikes, or Freedrive suspension technology, which eliminates pedal bob and provides a super-efficient full suspension. Mongoose bikes don't just push the limits; they set new ones.

I thought it'd be a handy "second" bike to keep at work and just buzz around a bit on breaks or lunchtime. It turned out so cheaply made and such low quality components that I couldn't even get a good bike shop to dial things in and straighten the cheap wheels sufficiently. It felt so light duty that I thought I'd break it, I've had a few decent mountain bikes and this thing just wasn't going to hold up, even with mostly street riding. The front shocks aren't adjustable, they have a fake knob on the top of each fork to look like they are. The derailuers, shifters, etc., all feel clunky and I thought the bike looked sweet in the pictures and would serve needs as my spare/extra bike but it wouldn't even qualify for that! I ended up giving it to my brother in law who rarely rides and won't take it on any kind of long rides, even on the street. Beware of Pacific Cycles and the brands they've bought (Cannondale being a recent addition to... This bike is so cheaply made, I am not sure I will be able to take any rides safely. lvb, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Mongoose Men's Montana Bicycle (Black) (Sports) Bought this as a birthday present for my nephew. Very nice bike, he loved it and it's tough enough to last him for a few years or at least until he starts driving! |
